Dentists

Leaving the post of Senior Dental Officer in Portsmouth City, John became practice principal in 1997, and has overseen expansion of the practice to its current form including achieving awards for BDA Good Practice in 2004 and Denplan Excel in 2007 which demonstrate the standards we have at the practice. 

After qualifying from Newcastle University in 1991, John spent 3 years in specialist hospital training at several of the major oncology (cancer) and trauma units in the country. 

John supports the dental implant, sedation services and Intermediate Minor Oral Surgery cases, in addition to managing the practice and his regular list of patients.  He is chairman of the Local Dental Committee and a past chairman of the West Dorset Section of the British Dental Association. 

John lives in Dorchester and enjoys cycling around the Dorchester countryside.  John is a PADI recreational diving instructor, and expedition diver.

Tom is a senior partner at the practice and is the principal at the Bristol Cosmetic Clinic.  Tom is a consultant Plastic Surgeon, has a special interest in cleft lip palate and is one of the two cleft surgeons at Frenchay the regional plastic unit in Bristol.  The unit serves the surgical management of infants born with facial disharmonies for the South West.

At the Practice Tom provides Consultant input for the implant surgery and also undertakes specialist oral surgery for the .  Tom remains committed to supporting the general services offered from our family run practice, maintaining a profile in most aspects of dentistry.  Toms interests and hobbies are centred around canoeing and an interest in antiques.

Lucy James – BDS

Lucy qualified from Sheffield University in 1991.  Straight from university her first post was working in a practice in Wellingon Somerset for her vocational practitioner training year.  Once this year was completed Lucy came back to work in Dorset.  Lucy spent 9 years working in Weymouth at the Esplanade and then came to work here at Royal Terrace Dental Practice in 2001.

Lucy provides Private, Denplan and NHS care and treatment for patients and she is very popular with the children. 

In house Lucy provides training for the dental nurses.

Away from the surgery Lucy is the lead in the local British Dental Association committee.   This mainly involves providing educational courses and support for the local dentists.  Beyond the clinical environment Lucy has her two young springer spaniels to keep her busy, you may see her out ‘beating’ in the local area or at the local dog agility demonstrations.

Richard qualified from Dundee in dentistry, and from London in Medicine.  He is our lead clinician for providing intravenous sedation both for patient lists at Royal Terrace Dental Practice and for referral cases from neighbouring practices.  Richard is associate specialist in the Oral and Maxillofacial Departments at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton and the NHS Foundation Trust Hospital at Yeovil. 

His particular interests are in implant surgery, including bone augmentation techniques, and all aspects of oral surgery including wisdom tooth management.  Richard has published widely, and presents on both the national and international stages.  Richards hobbies include windsurfing and camping on the Dorset Coast.

 

Hygienist


Rosalind Burnham – Dental Hygienist EDH

Ros qualified in 1975 at RAF Halton and has been working with us at Royal Terrace Dental Practice for over 30 years.  Hygiene treatments range from cosmetic polishing to the management of chronic periodontal disease  (shrinkage of gum and bony support around teeth) and promoting / teaching methods to improve cleaning skills.  Ros plays an important role in the after care following implant surgery.  Outside work Ros has her own thoroughbred gelding and enjoys regular outings around Buckland Ripers countryside riding her horse and walking her dogs.

Helen has been working with us since 2001, she qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2005 and has continued to achieve her post registration qualifications Certificate in Dental Radiograpy in 2012 and Dental Sedation Nursing in 2014.  Helen is currently pursuing a training role for Dental Nurses who require training and qualification in the Dorset area.

Lauren Oates

Lauren has been working with us since 2005, she qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2009 and has continued to achieve her post registration qualifications Certificate in Dental Radiograpy in 2012 and Dental Sedation Nursing in 2014. Lauren's special interests are in sedation and implants. Lauren  has recently returned from maternity leave and is looking to enrol on an implantology course for dental nurses. 

Amy Fulbrook

Amy has been working with us since 2008, she qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2012.  Amy is always happy to be of any help and support to our patients, and has a quality of putting our patients at ease.  Amy has recently returned from maternity leave and has enrolled on the Dental Radiography Course and is due to take her exam this year.

Candice Harrod

Candice has been working with us since 2009, she qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2012.  Candice is our main sedation nurse and has continued to achieve her post registration qualifications in Dental Sedation Nursing in 2014 and Certificate in Dental Radiograpy in 2015. Candice enjoys the patient care which comes with dental nursing and in her special interest of sedation nursing, therefore if you have any questions relating to treatments using sedation, she is the best port of call.

Tamara Barrett

Tamara has been working with us since 2011, she qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2014. Tamara achieved her post registration Certificate in Dental Radiography in 2015.  Tamara is very calm and collected and this often shows through to our anxious and nervous patients who need a dental nurse who can reassure them.

Thea has recently joined our practice in 2016 and and is due to start the course for National Certificate in Dental Nursing in January 2018.   Thea is very happy to be of help to our patients and provide patient care which everyone expects.

Lizzie Kessell

Lizzie rejoined our practice in 2016 after a university break.  Lizzie qualified as a Dental Nurse in 2012.  Lizzie is always happy to be of any help and support to our patients, and has a quality of putting our patients at ease with her chirpiness.  Lizzie has enrolled on the Dental Radiography Course and is due to take her exam this year.

Rebecca joined our practice in 2016 and is due to start the course for National Certificate in Dental Nursing this year.  Rebecca is a great advantage to our practice and  is a great asset to our practice, she is happy and cheerful, which shines through to our patients

Olivia has been working with us since 2015 and is currently on the course for National Certificate in Dental Nursing, Olivia will be taking the initial examination for this certificate in November 2017.  Olivia is outgoing and bubbly which is very important to our practice.
